Poison Apples

A delightful twist on a classic treat, these glossy, candied apples are perfect for Halloween festivities!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp blue gel food coloring
  • 1/4 tsp black gel food coloring
  • 6 large apples (or 10 medium/small)
  • 6 wooden skewers or twigs
  • Waxed paper
  • Vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Apples: Start by washing your apples thoroughly to remove any wax coatings. Dry them completely and insert the skewers.
  2. Line Your Work Surface: Lay out sheets of waxed paper on a flat surface and lightly grease with vegetable oil.
  3. Make the Candy Coating: In a heavy-bottomed pot, combine the sugar, corn syrup, and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  4. Monitor the Temperature: Use a candy thermometer to check the mixture until it reaches 300°F (150°C).
  5. Add the Colors: Remove from heat and stir in blue and black gel food coloring until combined.
  6. Dip the Apples: Quickly dip each apple into the candy coating, allowing excess to drip off, then place on the oiled waxed paper.
  7. Let Them Set: Allow the apples to cool and harden for about 30 minutes.

Notes
