Indian Fry Bread

Crispy on the outside yet tender on the inside, Indian Fry Bread is a versatile dish that can be enjoyed with a variety of toppings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Whisk to ensure everything is evenly distributed.
  2. Add warm water: Slowly pour in the warm water while mixing with a wooden spoon or your hands until a rough dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough: Turn the dough out onto a flour-dusted surface and knead gently for about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Rest the dough: Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest for about 10-15 minutes.
  5. Heat the oil: In a deep skillet, pour the oil and heat over medium-high heat.
  6. Shape the fry bread: Divide the rested dough into 6-8 pieces, roll each into a ball, and flatten into discs about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Fry the bread: Carefully place one piece of dough into the hot oil and fry for about 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  8. Drain and cool: Remove the fry bread and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  9. Serve hot: Serve the fry bread warm with your favorite toppings.

Notes
