Feta Saganaki: A Cheese Lover’s Delight

A delicious Mediterranean appetizer featuring crispy, golden fried feta cheese drizzled with honey and fresh lemon juice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 200 g smooth firm feta (about 11 ½ cm thick)
  • 1 ½ tablespoons plain (all-purpose) flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • ½ teaspoon sesame seeds
  • 12 tablespoons honey, to taste
  • 2 lemon wedges

Instructions

  1. Prep the Feta: Slice your feta into thick slabs, about 1 – 1.5 centimeters.
  2. Dust with Flour: On a plate, sprinkle the flour and take each feta slab, gently coating all sides.
  3. Heat the Oil: In a non-stick skillet, heat the olive oil on medium-high heat.
  4. Fry the Feta: Carefully place the floured feta in the skillet. Let it fry undisturbed for about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Flip the Feta: Using tongs, gently turn the slabs over and fry the other side for another 2-3 minutes.
  6. Add the Finishing Touches: Once both sides are crispy, sprinkle the sesame seeds and thyme over the cheese.
  7. Plate It Up: Carefully transfer the frying feta to a plate, drizzle with honey, and serve with lemon wedges.
  8. Enjoy!: Serve immediately while it’s hot and crispy.
