Blackberry-Fig Jam

A deliciously sweet Blackberry-Fig Jam that captures the essence of summer and cherished memories in every spoonful.

  • 1 1/2 lbs fresh figs, stemmed and quartered
  • 1/2 lb fresh blackberries
  • Zest peel of one lemon (just the yellow part)
  • 1 tbsp. freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/8 cup honey or agave syrup
  • 2 fresh thyme sprigs

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Fruit: Thoroughly wash your figs and blackberries. Stem the figs, quarter them, and set them aside.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a medium pot, combine quartered figs, blackberries, lemon zest, lemon juice, and salt. Sprinkle sugar over the mixture and gently toss.
  3. Cooking the Jam: Place the pot over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the mixture simmers and thickens (about 15-20 minutes).
  4. Add sweetener and herbs: Stir in honey or agave syrup and thyme sprigs, cooking for another 5-10 minutes until thickened.
  5. Jar it Up: Remove thyme sprigs, pour the jam into sterilized jars, leaving half an inch of headspace at the top, and seal tightly.

Notes

For added flavor, consider incorporating spices or alternative sweeteners. This jam pairs well with various foods and makes a great gift.
