Autumn Spice Pear Cobbler

A cozy dessert combining the sweetness of ripe pears with warm spices for a heartwarming experience.

  • 4 medium ripe pears, peeled and chopped into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Sanding sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prep the chopped pears with granulated sugar, 1/4 cup flour, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt; let sit for 10 minutes.
  3. Transfer the pears into a greased 9-inch baking dish.
  4. Create the topping by whisking together 1 1/2 cups flour, brown sugar, baking powder, ground cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, allspice, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt.
  5. Incorporate the cold butter cubes into the dry mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Pour in the milk and stir gently until just combined.
  7. Top the pears with the batter, spreading it gently.
  8. Sprinkle sanding sugar on top if desired.
  9. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  10. Cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra special touch.
