Healthy Baked Churro Bites

A guilt-free twist on traditional churros, these Healthy Baked Churro Bites are made with whole wheat flour, coconut sugar, and applesauce for a delightful treat without the extra calories.

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup coconut sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup almond milk
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Additional cinnamon and sugar for coating

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  3. Whisk together the whole wheat flour, coconut sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a mixing bowl.
  4. Mix the unsweetened applesauce, almond milk, melted coconut oil, and vanilla extract in another bowl until smooth.
  5. Gently fold the wet mixture into the dry mixture until combined.
  6. Form small bite-sized dough balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake for about 12–15 minutes, or until lightly golden.
  8. Mix together cinnamon and coconut sugar for the coating while baking.
  9. Roll each churro bite in the cinnamon-sugar mixture after they cool.
  10. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

These bites are best enjoyed warm and can be stored in an airtight container for several days. Feel free to experiment with mix-ins like chocolate chips or coconut!
