Egg and Cheese Toasts

A quick and comforting recipe featuring crispy bread topped with melted cheese and a perfectly cooked egg, ideal for any time of day.

  • 2 slices hearty sandwich bread
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup (2 ounces) grated cheese (cheddar, pepper jack, or gruyère)
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh herbs (thyme or rosemary)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Pinch of cayenne (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep your ingredients by gathering and chopping the herbs and grating the cheese.
  2. Toast the bread in a skillet with olive oil until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Flip the bread and add cheese on top, allowing it to melt slightly.
  4. Cook the egg, beaten, over the cheese and cover the skillet until the egg whites are set, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add fresh herbs on top before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, use butter instead of oil for toasting. Customize toppings for various tastes.
