Cheesy Chicken Broccoli Orzo

A comforting dish that combines tender chicken, nutritious broccoli, and orzo pasta in a creamy, cheesy sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • ½ medium onion (chopped)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 cups broccoli florets (fresh or thawed frozen)
  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken (e.g., rotisserie)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (preferably sharp)
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet, add olive oil and butter over medium heat.
  2. Once melted, toss in chopped onions and sauté for 3-4 minutes until soft.
  3. Add minced garlic and sauté for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Now add broccoli florets and sauté for about 4-5 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle in Italian seasoning and stir to combine.
  6. Pour in chicken broth and bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low and cover.
  7. Let simmer for 10-12 minutes or until orzo is al dente.
  8. Stir in heavy cream and Worcestershire sauce until well combined.
  9. Fold in shredded chicken and half of the cheese until evenly distributed.
  10. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top and cover, cooking until melted and bubbly.
  11. Before serving, taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.

Notes

For added flavor, sprinkle fresh herbs on top before serving. Pair with a crisp green salad or crusty bread.
